How do I size a rangehood for a BBQ?
Match or exceed the width of the cooking surface. A 900mm hood covers most built-in barbecues; 1200mm and 1500mm suit a full outdoor kitchen run with a side burner or griddle. Undersized hoods let smoke escape at the edges, which is the usual complaint.
Do outdoor rangehoods need different ducting?
They need ducting rated for the run and terminated properly, and stainless steel construction to survive weather and salt air. An indoor hood moved outside will corrode quickly, which is why the commercial stainless units cost more.
