What is the difference between lump charcoal and briquettes?

Lump charcoal is carbonised hardwood with nothing added. It lights faster, burns hotter and leaves less ash, and it is what most ceramic and kamado cooks use. Briquettes burn longer and more evenly at lower temperatures, which suits long smokes where stability matters more than peak heat.

Is a portable charcoal grill enough for a camping trip?

For two to four people, yes. The foldable models here pack flat and run on a single chimney of charcoal, which is enough for a round of steaks or snags. They are not built for holding low temperatures over several hours.
