Overview
The rundown on the Kamado Big Block XL Lumpwood Charcoal
Kamado Joe's Big Block XL Lumpwood Charcoal is the premium fuel choice for serious BBQ and outdoor cooking enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on flavour. Crafted from an authentic blend of South American hardwoods — guayacan, guayaibi, mistol, and white quebracho — this 100% natural lump charcoal delivers a clean, chemical-free burn that lets the true flavour of your food shine. The extra-large lump pieces ignite faster than briquettes, reach searing temperatures ideal for steaks and chops, and can dial right back down to low-and-slow smoking temperatures, giving you complete heat command across every cook session.
Whether you're reverse-searing a thick wagyu ribeye on a kamado grill, pulling a whole brisket after an 18-hour low-and-slow smoke, or hosting a classic Aussie backyard barbecue for family and mates, this charcoal rises to every occasion. Compatible with all kamado-style grills including Kamado Joe and Big Green Egg, as well as any standard charcoal grill or smoker, it's the versatile go-to fuel for Australian backyard entertainers and competition-level pitmasters alike. Each 9kg bag burns for up to 18 hours per session and the spent charcoal can be reused up to three times, making it one of the most cost-effective premium charcoal options on the market.
Kamado Joe has built its reputation on engineering-led innovation and premium materials — a philosophy that carries through to its fuel range. The Big Block XL charcoal is sourced from sustainably managed hardwood forests and contains zero additives, binders, or chemical accelerants. The result is minimal ash production, no unwanted off-flavours, and a pure wood-fired character that elevates everything from a weeknight snag sizzle to a centrepiece show-stopper at your next outdoor entertaining event.
