Buyer’s guide
Grillz makes the budget end of the charcoal and electric market: portable grills, foldable camping barbecues and 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 offset smokers, priced from around $45 to $241. It is the range to look at when you want a second cooker for the ute or the campsite rather than a permanent backyard build.
The 2-in-1 pairs a charcoal grill with an offset smoker box, so you can sear directly or run indirect heat from the side chamber. The 3-in-1 adds a roasting function. Both are steel rather than ceramic, so they heat fast and lose heat fast.
The offset models will hold smoke for a few hours with attention, but thin steel means temperature swings with wind and weather. For an unattended twelve-hour brisket, a kamado or a gravity-fed charcoal cabinet holds its line far better.
